Project 1829

For decades, our country has looked to our young adults to be the future heirs of the next generation.  Whether through the expectation of higher education or the sacrifice of war, the previous generation has always looked to the next generation to carry the torch.  The only problem is no one ever talks to the younger generation about what they want or need to carry that torch.  For too long, the generations before have taken our young adults for granted while constantly reminding them they still have a lot to learn. That type of thinking has turned into resentment from the younger generations. Resentment of our history, resentment of our values, resentment of our financial system, and even resentment toward our country as a whole.

Our tomorrow starts with our young adults today, which is why I am proposing Project 1829 and Beyond.

Project 1829 and Beyond is a bill that would offer young adults between the ages of 18 and 29, with provisions up to 34 years old, the resources every young adult needs to get a fair head start in Connecticut.

As of today, statistics show the average family of four needs to make approximately $279,000 to live comfortably in Connecticut.  That ranks third worst in the entire country. How can any young adult not feel helpless when just renting an apartment is more than some mortgages?

If we are going to keep these young adults in the state of Connecticut, we need a plan that gives them a head start.  Inflation, taxes, and supply chain issues are all excuses our young people did not create and, quite honestly, should not have to inherit.

When elected, I will champion Project 1829 and Beyond, which offers a wealth of opportunity instead of excuses.

Opportunities such as:

No Connecticut state tax on home improvements in the first year of ownership for first-time buyers between the ages of 18 and 34.

Additional Connecticut state tax write-offs for house necessities in the first year for first-time homebuyers between the ages of 18 and 34.

Connecticut state tax write-offs for first-time car-buyers between the ages of 18 and 34.

Higher education Connecticut state tax incentives for businesses that participate in the funding of employee college tuition.

Resident retention plan for first-time homebuyers between the ages of 18 and 34.

Connecticut-based businesses incentivization for offering paid internships with formal training and certifications, as well as a “first right of refusal” program once they graduate.

Small, medium, and large Connecticut-based businesses incentivization to hire Connecticut-based employees between the ages of 18 and 34 by offering those businesses stair-step tax incentives based on the lucrativeness of the salary and level of training given to their new hires. The bottom line would be the more a Connecticut-based individual between the ages of 18 and 34 is paid, the more tax incentives the companies would enjoy.

Advanced middle school and high school programs with a curriculum that prepares students for all aspects of careers, including corporate business, trade, and municipality jobs such as police, firefighters, EMTs, and teachers.

Our young adults will not be the only ones who would benefit from the adoption of Project 1829 and Beyond. Young people having an opportunity to earn a fair wage in Connecticut would mean more tax dollars paid to help lower the tax burden for everyone.

Project 1829 and Beyond would also offer tax write-offs on the interest of student loans to help incentivize young people to further their education without fear of insurmountable debt.

The reputation that Connecticut is not a business-friendly state would improve by showing businesses and corporations that Connecticut is serious about producing hardworking individuals.

Young adults would have an investment in the future of Connecticut.

Connecticut businesses would be able to hire young people who are eager to come to work.

Connecticut businesses would have the opportunity to improve their services with qualified individuals who possess a desire to maintain some level of longevity at their jobs.

I plan to stop discouraging our young adults with nicknames like Gen-Z and Millennials and start encouraging them by offering them the one thing they want – a fair chance in the world. Unfortunately, we, the older generation, have deprived them of this for too long. It’s time to make a change we can agree on.

When elected, additional I will champion Project 1829 and Beyond, which also offers support for our Seniors.

Opportunities such as:

No senior pays state income tax on their social secuity

Offer the first right refusal which gives senior access to affordable housing facilities across the state

It’s time to take care of the people who took care of us
